We, the students of class 8d, stayed at the language farm in Freienorla for one week in September. Life on the farm – that meant language learning by playing games, cooking traditional food and working on diverse projects on the farm. Our teachers were native speakers.
A VISIT TO THE LANGUAGE FARM
The name of one group was Team Green because the Irish man Chris was the teacher. He told us the story about the Irish Giant Finn Mc Cool and the Scottish Giant Ben O’ Donner. On the last day we performed the story in front of the class. We had lots of fun in the group. Chris cooked together with us, and we played baseball.
We, Cristoph, Laura, Jonas and Eric were in Matata’s group. Matata is from Tanzania in Africa. He taught us a lot about Africa. In Africa it's always warm and there is not so much water, and there live the five big animals - the elephant, the lion, the giraffe, the leopard and the rhino. Matata told us everything about a black snake named Black Mamba. He always said: “I love you more than bananas!” On Thursday it was Africa day. In the morning we had a bushman breakfast: apple- and banana purée; for lunch, we had sandwiches to go, and in the evening we had Chicken Pulau. In the small language group we sang the “Jungle song”.
The third group stayed with Alicia who comes from Sandwich in England. England is a part of the UK. The capital of England is London. There live 8 million people. In 1666 there was a big fire in London. On the farm we learned much more about England in our small language group during the day. And every evening we sang songs at the fire.
We were in a group with Lou from Australia. She told us about her country Australia. For example: On the coast there is rain and that is why they plant sugarcane. Behind the farmland there is rainforest. In the rainforest the leaves of the trees are big. Then, there is the scrub crossing from the rainforest to the dessert. In the scrub there live Koalas, they eat the leaves from the gum trees. These leaves are small. In the dessert there is no water. In the dessert, there the leaves are very very small.
We had a great time!
